The Butterflies of Venezuela book series

With nearly 3000 butterfly species occurring within its extensive territory, Venezuela ranks an impressive fifth in the world for species richness of its butterfly fauna. The Butterflies of Venezuela is a four-part series of books, of which two volumes have been published to date. When completed, the book series will cover every known species of the approximately 1000 recorded in the Nymphalidae, Papilionidae, and Pieridae - equivalent to over one-third of the total Neotropical species in these families.

The Butterflies of Venezuela series will prove invaluable to all who wish to learn about the remarkable and diverse butterfly fauna of this country and its continental neighbours.

"Finally someone has combined motivation, ability, enthusiasm and resources to start a first-rate series on the butterflies of Venezuela ... youthful exuberance and modern scholarship shine through Andrew Neild's first volume ... Bravo! A job well done."

Review of Part 1 by Dr. Phil DeVries, American Scientist (USA), 1997, Volume 85, pp. 477-478

"This is a magnificent book. This is a superb book. Nothing more needs to be said, but I doubt that the review editor would accept a review which is shorter than a book's title ... Neild's work is magnificent and superb, user friendly, and worth its cost. As such, it serves as an excellent model for future regional treatises."

Review of Part 1 by Dr. George Austin, Annals of the Entomological Society of America (USA)
September 1997, Volume 90, no. 5, pp. 701-702.

"Skillfully composed and beautifully illustrated ....  The color plates are impeccable ..."
"This outstanding book should be on every lepidopterist’s shelf."

Review of Part 2 by Dr. Carla Penz, Journal of the Lepidopterists' Society (USA) 64 (2010), pp. 50-51

".... a magnificent book of great interest to anyone interested in the Neotropical butterfly fauna."

Review of Part 2 by Dr Jacques Pierre, Bulletin de la Société Entomologique de France (France), Vol. 114 (2009), pp. 280 & 360

"This series ... can be regarded as one of the best works on the butterfly fauna of any South American country. It is a masterpiece ...  The quality of The Butterflies of Venezuela is such that many say the taxonomy and plates achieve near-perfection."
Review of Part 2 by Dr. Julián Salazar, Boletín científico. Museo de Historia Natural. Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), No. 13 (2009), pp. 231-232
